~ “Food for Thought” During an Election Season ~
Our country and county are in the midst of
the worst housing recession since the great depression. Most of you know that
housing prices are declining. Much or all of the appreciation in housing prices
that occurred over the past decade has been wiped out in the past year as
inventories increased to all time high, while demand is down dramatically.
Foreclosures are at or near record highs. If you have attempted to sell your
home recently, you likely either had to reduce your price dramatically or are
still sitting on it.
While we are in the depths of this horrendous housing market with declining
prices, I opened my mail to find that the Forsyth County Board of Tax Assessors
under the Chairmanship of Mr. Mike Busse has determined that the market value of
my home has increased by 19.4% since last year. You may have received a similar
notice. BRILLIANT!
Mr. Busse is running for county commissioner
in the 2nd district against the incumbent Brian Tam.
Make no mistake, unless the Board of Commissioners makes a corresponding
reduction in the county millage rate, these assessment changes will result in
one of the highest tax increases in county history.
We are in a period of extreme economic stress with painfully high food and fuel
prices, declining home values and are now looking at a potentially large
increase in property taxes.
Mr. Busse what are you thinking?
